I have two backpacks – one from Kero and one from Fjällräven. I like to use them when I am travelling as I can carry heavier loads and also keep my hands free. But I am not a backpack person. Maybe it is because I come from South Africa where crime is high and I feel that back-opening backs mean my belongings are not safe. Maybe it is because I like everything being close at hand and don’t like having to remove my backpack to get them out. With a handbag I just dip my hand in while I am walking. Maybe it is because I use public transport and I hate feeling I may be bashing people in the face with my protuberance.
